Travel in Style

Oh, how I would love to have this roller suitcase from Halsea. All of the prints are coastal inspired and so much fun! It makes you want to plan a trip just so you can bring along the adorable suitcase. The luggage shown above is from their "Little Harbor Travel Collection", which is my favorite*. Go on...plan a mini vacay!

Distressed

Bar none, my favorite furniture is the distressed, shabby chic look. Isn't this chest to die for? I love the way it looks with the white-washed wood floors and antique lamps. I've done some "distressing" of my own furniture in the past and would love to share with you the results. This week has been tres busy with work, so once I find a minute I'll post some furniture re-creations of my own. Don't be afraid to paint with colors and brighten up your room! Happy hump day!

Up, Up & Awayyy

It was the perfect weekend to ride ol' blue down to Waterfront Park and watch the Blue Angels! This past week in Charleston was "Navy Week" and the Blue Angels flew in for an amazing finale. If you've never seen the Blue Angels and ever get a chance, I highly recommend you don't pass up the opportunity. Their preciseness amazes me and the sound is deafening yet so thrilling. See the video below I found that features some great shots of their performance here in Charleston.

Anddddd finally...I'd like to announce this marks the offical beginning of BLUE WEEK here at L.A.S. lowcountry. I'll feature my favorite blues all week long..c'mon and join me!

Going Local

Today I leave you with some of my favorite local interior design and furniture stores here in the lowcountry. All of these places are truly amazing and the ultimate place to escape and dream...oh how I cannot wait to decorate my own house someday.

Skirtin' Around

A while back, I purchased this adorable little skirt above from J. Crew. This cotton skirt with an elastic waistband has become one of my favorites to wear both at work and on the weekends. But when I really started thinking about it, it's a pretty simple garment to make. Step 1 - cotton fabric. Step 2 - wide elastic. Step 3 - get out your sewing machine. Step 4 - make an elastic casing for the waistband. Step 5 - hem bottom. Tada!

And that's exactly what I did. I re-created this skirt with a lovely yellow cotton blend for only $7 dollars! See below. My local fabric store is desperately lacking in their choice of elastic, so mine isn't quite as wide as I would have liked it...but it will do. When I'm feeling nautical, I can pair it with my navy and white stripe tank. All aboard!!

Sew What

Sew what have I been working on lately? Just a little glimpse of some of the projects I've whipped stitched up...These bright and festive catch-all bags are being made in small, medium (*shown above), and large sizes. I'm already using the large one as my new, summery make-up bag and loving it. More styles coming soon...

April Showers Bring May Flowers

This is inarguably the most gorgeous time of year in Charleston. Almost every house is overflowing in beautiful, bountiful blooms from shabby chic window boxes. Take a stroll down Tradd St. and you will soon be inspired by this floral adornment. Alas, this weekend was the perfect opportunity to do a little "apartment gardening" of my own*. For the first time in over a year (not.even.kidding), I had the weekend all to myself. ahh, bliss. It was absolutely wonderful and just what I needed. Plenty of time to escape, enjoy the flowers and do some sewing :)

*my new buds pictured above. those in the birdcage...why yes, I planted them in an old mixing bowl. how delightful.

Mason Mayhem

Simply put, I love mason jars. There are so many uses for these vintage jars and so many ways to incorporate them into your home. Shown above - this blue-tinted Ball mason jar serves as a bookend in my living room bay window. Have you seen those gorgeous mason jars used as hanging lanterns? obsessed*. Reminds me of summer nights and fireflies. Now that's living the good life.

Say that 3 times fast! In lieu of summer quickly approaching and all things nautical...I can't get enough of sea inspired home decor. Here are a few of my favorites:

Go Green

What a gorgeous Easter weekend! The weather was in the 80's and absolutely b-e-a-u-tiful! I spent all day Friday and Saturday in the sewing room taking some lessons from my oh-so-talented mother. I cannot wait to show ya'll the things I made! Those little creations will have to wait for now because my week is already busy, busy, busy!!

I wanted to share with you my life organizer. Meet "my tidy green planner" (*pictured above).  I seriously cannot live without this thing. I carry it everywhere. The creators of "Mom Agenda" & "My Agenda" are a lifesaver for those like me that insist on writing everything down. These women literally thought of it all - pages for vacation planning, fashion, exercise, movies, books, birthdays, anniversaries, notes, and so much more. In the past I've always purchased the "Mom Agenda" because I love the larger size and extra add-ins (...and no, I'm not a mom). However, I just noticed that they have started making the "My Agenda" in the desktop size. Hallelujah! Click here to check out all the fun colors and prints that are available and start organizing in style!

Trellis Squared

Disclaimer: Some of you may have already seen this trellis print mouse pad over at Buckhead Belle...thus some of my creations may be repetitive. I've been trying to spruce up my work cubicle lately to make those "Mondays" more interesting. I had some left over fabric from the pillows used in my living room, so why not bring a little bit of home to the office? This week I created an extremely-easy-to-make matching pencil cup. By no means are either of these perfect. I seriously threw them both together in a matter of minutes when I got the urge to experiment. I love how they look so cute together on my desk!

As for this weekend, I'm heading home to the upstate to spend some quality time with friends and family. On the green planner for tomorrow is a full day of sewing lessons :) My mother can literally sew anything you can think of. Being the ADHD kid I was, I never wanted to learn until I went off to college. Now I'm playing catch up...

hippitty hoppitty Easter's on it's way!
